Israelite or Cult?

There’s been a wide misconception regarding who or what exactly are the Israelites.  We get labeled the “Black Jews”, “The Hebrews”, “The Black Israelites”etc… First let’s be clear being an Israelite in no way to associate ourselves with the color black, and neither is it a “Black thing”.  The Israelites biblically and historically were people of color or different shades of brown.  Our ancestors are of so-called Black, Hispanic and Native American descent. Now the Scriptures clearly answer this question as well in Romans 9:4  Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;[5] Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.  One thing we have to understand is being an Israelite is not a choice, option, socio-political club, militant black power group or a religious movement. Being an Israelite is about nationality, heritage, genealogy, history, laws and customs. When you search the Scriptures in 1 Chronicles 9:1  So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.  Clearly you see that being Israelite is based upon genealogy. Because of our customs and laws we stand out from the mainstream ideologies that the world presents to us as the norm. Our style of dress is different (Numbers 15:37-41), our diet is different (Leviticus 11 & Deuteronomy 14:1-21), we don’t follow the same customs of the world such as Christmas, Halloween, New Year’s Day, Easter, 4th of July etc… We hold true to the words of our Father and the commandments that our ancestors were given which was to keep the holy days of the Bible. Days such as the Passover, Feast of Dedication, Memorial Blowing of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Feast of Tabernacles, The Sabbath etc… So when you put it in proper perspective yeah we will look different, talk different, and not share the same interests in comparison to the people of the world but does that classify us as being a cult? Let’s look at the definition of cult and find out

: a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous

: a situation in which people admire and care about something or someone very much or too much

: a small group of very devoted supporters or fans

Full Definition

Usage: often attributive

1 : formal religious veneration : worship

2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents

3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents

4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>

5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad

So really when you look at the word cult by definition being a fan of a sports team, a fan of Harry Potter books, declare any religious denomination, are a vegetarian or vegan, or a Jay-Z or Beyonce fan you technically are in a cult! So it’s ironic that the same people that say being an Israelite is part of being in a cult, they themselves are in a cult! Now truthfully speaking as with any organized frame of thought and lifestyle it can be corrupted by Satan. However, the scriptures always advise us to take heed in our walk of faith for such corruption. 1 Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: When you understand this principle then you know Satan is always on a quest to consume, harm, and destroy the works of righteousness. 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. Due to the fact that the bible is a book of knowledge and understanding, one can easily be corrupted by an increase in knowledge and thus be “puffed up” and only wickedness can follow. Has this happened within some Israelite churches/camps? Absolutely!  Has your favorite athlete, entertainer, preacher, or favorite sports team ever been caught in a scandal or had their image tarnished? Of course! The point of the matter is no one is exempt from being touched by Satan and the works of his agents. If you’re not applying the principles of the bible there’s a great chance for corruption, discord and unrighteousness. Christ said why call ye me Lord and don’t do the things he says? (Luke 6:46).  The very thing that we as Israelites stand for is the same reason people say we are a cult. We take the bible seriously and do as The Most High and Christ commands! While many other people say they love Christ and believe they fail to do as the scriptures command (Mark 7:6-8), We dedicate ourselves as being true worshipers of The Most High and true followers of Christ (John 4:23).  People will say we take the bible to serious, or your crazy for reading that book, but Christ gave us fair warning regarding this type of rejection John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. [19] If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.  So there’s really no surprise that the world would try to discredit and label being an Israelite as part of being in a cult and surround it with negative connotations. In actuality the bible speaks clearly of staying away from any forms of wicked forms of cult like behavior (1 Thess 5:22).

Shalom FAM: Very good article. To some it may look like a cult, but researching our ancestry history and culture to identify ourselves is far from a cult. The other nation do it,and they are proud of it. So a cult, I don't think so, because we up hold the laws and commands of the bible and tell our people our history has been hidden from us. Christ says, Matt 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, you do error not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. Love the article it's on point.

Excellent article! It's utterly amazing how the world perceives obedience to the commandments of the Most High as a cult and disobedience as rightful freedom! "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil..." Isaiah 5:20

Anything that is non-conformist and set apart from the heathen is a cult to them. It is the Most High who sanctifies his people and bids them to come out from her and be separate. The biggest cult there is so called the so called denominations and religion of Christianity. Come out from among them and be ye separate. If you love me then you will keep my Commandments...
