Being Accountable

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12)

There comes a point in life where we must grow up and realize that we, and none else, are responsible for our own actions.

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (2 Corinthians 13:11).

It is a childish mentality to put our actions on another.  A mentality, I must admit, many (myself included) still succumb to. We blame the outcome of our actions on what others have subjected us to, the situations we are forced to deal with, and the problems we face daily.  But regardless of what is happening the consequences of our decisions and actions fall to us and not to our parents, siblings, spouses, friends, acquaintances, etc.,.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).

When the day comes for us to be judged, we will be judged alone and according to OUR OWN works. In the end the Most High is not going to care what someone else did or didn’t do that brought about your actions because they too will be judged for their deeds.  On that day, we will have to give account for our own individual selves and actions because, regardless of others it is our own responsibility to always uphold ourselves in a righteous and dignified manner.

Our actions are exactly that,  OUR ACTIONS!, and we are only held responsible for them. Of course there will come times in which people will provoke us and setbacks will be placed before us and situations outside of our control will affect us, but we must not allow those things to hinder the way we behave and the things that we do.  We must not allow those things to control us or our outcome.

“Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure” 1 Timothy 5:22

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement.  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”.  Matthew 12:36-37

“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be”. Revelation 22:12

Revelation 20:12-13- “ And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works”.

  1. The here’s no one to blame but ourselves 🙁 we have complete control over our actions but it’s up to us to do the right thing or not..I know I am guilty of blaming others sometimes. Something I guess we all can work on and change for the better 🙂

  2. Great article…I remember not too long ago when our elder RaAshYath was teaching a women’s class, he reminded us when you point a finger at someone, 3 fingers are pointed at you!! A very powerful message and a very true one!! And in Christ’s words: “2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?” Matthew 7:2-4.
