How Will You Choose To Feel?

What we choose to listen to or watch  on television and at the movies can influence us to feel many different emotions.  You can be happy one minute and then upset the next just by listening to a certain song.  There are many times when the beat is good and the lyrics are catchy and you will be singing along not realizing exactly what is being said, but you will still feel the vibe that the artist wanted you to feel.

A lot of the music nowadays is garbage, promoting adultery, homosexuality, and covetousness. It’s like Peter the Piper putting everyone in a trance and from young to old they all follow.

Acts 20:30; “Also of our own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.”

It is plain to see when you look around how much people idolize those artists. We have got to put a stop to it especially in our household.  What are you teaching your children when you are playing, singing or dancing to vulgar, obscene and morally inappropriate music? It teaches children that it is okay to do the types of things described in the music, especially if you applaud their behavior.

1 Corinthians 15:33 “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

Luke 11:35  “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”

I have heard the music by the artists Too-Short, Eazy-E, Lil Wayne, Trina, etc. playing in cars, and when I turn to look I see either a male or female driver with kids in car seats waving their hands and even bobbing their heads.  What a great example they are setting! (sarcasm). Then parents wonder where they went wrong raising their kids and why their children have behavior issues.

Most of the shows on T.V. and movies are promoting the same wickedness.  Why is it that there has to be some sort of homosexual character in every show or movie?  We know what the law states, so why do we watch it and allow our kids to watch it? What about reality T.V?  I hear people all the time saying things like, “I love that show”,  “I watch it religiously every night”, “I have it recorded”, “I can’t believe what’s her name cheated on what’s his name” etc… What we watch can also have the tendency to makes us feel some type of way.   They can make us feel excited, angry, covetous, depressed, basically all of the emotions. We don’t realize what type of psychological effects it may have on us and sometimes the negative feelings can be taken out on other family members.  Children are effected very easily.  For example, I would watch La Bamba with my youngest son when he was two years old and he loved the movie.  He would get sad and cry at the ending because the main character dies.  To this day if I play it, the same thing happens.  Children will get hyper and active If they watch an action movie like Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Spider man, etc…  They will immediately start jumping, kicking in the air, throwing pretend weapons and so on.  This also happens to adults in the same fashion that usually stimulates violence and sex. Many movies and shows have a lot of sexual content, yes we are adults and can watch whatever we want, but are we able to control our spirit? If we can’t, it will definitely trigger something negative. Some of the things we watch are just nonsense, what are they good for? What knowledge will you gain from what you are watching or is it just dumbing you down without you even realizing it.

Proverbs 25:28; “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”

Proverbs 28:18; “Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.”

I’ve heard it many times during our classes, “The Most High doesn’t dwell with us when unrighteous thoughts enter into us (Wisdom of Solomon 1:5). Picture yourself as a family member that you are trying to bring to Christ and they come over to your house and you are listening to Nicki Minaj and singing along to Anaconda. What do you think they will think? Easily they will think that you are a hypocrite or that it’s ok to be a woman of God and not change your ways. Let’s set the example and be holy women of the Most High.  I’m not saying that music and movies are wrong but we must be mindful of our actions and make wise choices in what we choose to entertain.  We must always remember who we are and who we represent!!

Colossians 4:5; “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”

Ephesians 4:17-19; “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness…”

Ephesians 4:22-24; “That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
