“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5
It can become very easy for us to get distracted by the things in this world, for this reason it is crucial that we are constantly examining ourselves, our thoughts and our actions. Just knowing that you are an Israelite, alone, isn’t going to get you into the kingdom of heaven. Instead one must also keep the commandments and behave in a righteous dIsraelite fashion. But such a task can get understandably hard at times. We are surrounded, on a daily basis, by people who have no regard for the Most High, Christ, the laws, or even righteousness. And because we are in such situations every day, for one who is not strongly rooted in the Most High and His laws, distractions are prevalent.
“The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth him” Proverbs 12:26
By constantly examining yourself you become more familiar with who you are and what areas of the law you are excelling in and areas that need improvement. By examining yourself you will recognize whether you have been seduced by the world and in turn can get yourself back on the path of maintaining righteousness.
Assessing your actions, thoughts, and overall self is a very important part in making sure we are right in the eyes of God. If we never examine ourselves, there would be no way of knowing if we are actually being righteous or if our actions are pleasing to the Most High. Examining ourselves is the key to assuring that we are actually adhering to the laws of the Most High on a daily basis.
- James 1:22 -“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”
- Lamentations 3:40 -“Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord”
- Galatians 6:3-5- “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he decieveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden”
By examining yourself there is no doubt in your minds as to where you stand with the Most High and in doing so we not only figure out what things we need to fix within ourselves but we also give ourselves the opportunity to repent from those actions before it is too late.
