Numbers 15:38-40; “38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: 39 An it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye make look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye used to go a whoring: 40 That ye may remember , and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.”
By reading Numbers 15:38-40, we get the understanding of the Fringes and Ribbon of Blue. We are to wear them on our clothing on a daily basis for as long as the Most High permits us to live and we must teach this law to our children. It is a law that we are to keep throughout ALL OUR GENERATIONS. It is a reminder of who we are and the commandments that we are to keep. They are there to help us make the right decisions in life.
When you first come into the Truth, it might be difficult to understand what the point is to wearing the Fringes and Ribbon of Blue. You might think it looks funny or that it will interfere with your style. Children might think they will be made fun of. That is when you must understand and teach it to your children that we are doing it for the Most High for our own benefit. Read them the scriptures continually in order for them to grow that true Love for the Law and not be ashamed in any way. Teach them to grow that thick skin and not let ignorant words affect them and especially not you as an adult. We must wear them proudly! My daughter has come home and told me how she actually gets complimented on her fringes and both my sons have been questioned about why they wear them and they both tell me it’s a great conversation starter and a great way to teach these kids. We must all wear our Fringes and Ribbon of Blue proudly.
John 15:18, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” (Yahawashi)
John 15:20-21, “Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.” (Yahawashi)
You might think that it’s not that important to wear it as long as you are keeping all the other commandments, but you are so far from being right. Remember what the Bible says about keeping only certain laws:
James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is GUILTY OF ALL.”
I know, I couldn’t truly understand why I had to wear them in the beginning, but after more understanding I realized I had to put the fringes and Ribbon of Blue on all my families’ clothes and of course mine as well, STAT. It wasn’t a breeze to do it but with determination and help from my lovely sisters I was able to learn how to sew and how to choose the right fringes for different materials. Now you can walk around your local mall or any clothing store and they carry so many different outfits already with fringes!! All you have to do is add the ribbon of blue of your preference. Any blue is fine there is no specific on the blue it has to be as long as it’s blue. I believe we, Israelites, made it a fashion trend. A few months ago I received an email from an online shoe store and the subject read: “Talk About Fringe Benefits, Ruth.” I had to laugh and I thought, “oh yeah, I can definitely tell you the benefits of why I wear my fringes.” In the email it had many outfits and shoes with fringes (the new fashion staple).
The following images are different types of fringes and ribbon of blue that you can add to shirts, sweaters, skirts, dresses, cardigans, blouses, Holy garments, etc. They are to hopefully help you understand the types you can use and will take the guessing out of it. It will all get easier with time, trust me. I will also include some fringes you can make yourself.
Home made fringes:
On these, you just add the ribbon towards the bottom of the shirt and cut the fringes. The ribbon will hold the fringe from running.
On this T-shirt, I cut the bottom of the shirt off above the seam. I then cut my fringes to my desired length then i pull each fringe down individually. You can either cut slits and thread the ribbon through above the fringe or sew the ribbon above the fringes. I wear this over a tank.
These are just some of the other types of fringes you can use, but there is so much more.
Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any doubts about any fringe or ribbon.
