“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. 7And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it” (Job 1:6-7).
On a daily basis we are faced with people, instances, circumstances, etc. that try our faith in the most High and His laws. These situations test whether we will do the right thing or not and attempt to persuade us into going against the most High. Satan is always looking to pull us away from God and he uses many tactics to do so. Family, work, school, friends, everything can become a means for Satan to use in order to steer us away from doing what is right and following after the most High and Christ. This is why it is important for us to recognize the devil and his tactics before we play right into his hands.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
Anything that tries to persuade us to go against the Lord is a tactic of Satan. Whether it is our jobs that try to schedule us work on the Sabbath or the people we know who try to get us to go out and do foolishness with them. Whether it be our families who try to convince us to celebrate the holidays or teachers in school who make us learn and memorize things that contradict the Bible. Anything that can get us away from the most High is a tactic of Satan.
We must also remember that regardless of how close someone is to us, if they try to get you to go against God, they too are a vessel in which Satan is using to his advantage. Satan loves to use those who are closest to us against us. For it was Job’s wife who tried to convince him to curse God (Job 2:9).
The better we are at recognizing Satan’s tactics the better we will get at catching ourselves before we fall. The devil isn’t going to play fair. He doesn’t care about our feelings or how hard life is for us. His only desire and care is in getting us away from God and taking our salvation from under us. He will do everything possible to get us back into wickedness and if we aren’t vigilant he will succeed. “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour” 1 Peter 5:8
Remember, Satan only has as much power over you as you allow him to. When we recognize his attempts to get us into wickedness and reject it we then have power over him. For as Christ said, “Get thee behind me Satan: for it is written, thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Luke 4:8).
