Decorously Beautiful

Decorous (keeping with good taste and propriety; polite and restrained; modest) apparel has always been the hallmark of righteous Israelite women.  Israelite women understand how important it is to be self-motivated, hard-working and dignified.  Self respect comes from having inward and outward beauty.  When a woman dresses modestly
she officially tells the world that she respects herself, expects to be judged by her skills, capabilities, and mind rather than her physical assets.  Men will respect you more as a woman because you are respecting yourself throughin and throughout.

1Timothy 2:9 “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;”

Can You Be Modest And Fashionable?

Here’s How!

Start buying skirts that are long enough to cover the knee when sitting.
do not wear clothes that reveal the stomach or cleavage area and accentuate the buttocks area.  Long skirts that flow will add room for women that have a little more “junk in the trunk” than others and will prevent the likelihood of an embarrassing situation when bending over.

Try your clothes on in front of a large mirror to see how your clothing fits you and what impression it conveys. Bend over, sit down, wave your arms around, make sure your clothes don’t shift around. Rule of thumb is, if you can lift your arms up and see your navel region, wear something else. If you sit down and your skirt rises up above the knee then it is not appropriate.

We all want to dress fashionable. You do not have to dress inappropriately and give people the wrong perception about you in order to do so.  You can still dress beautifully and feel confident about yourself.  Confidence is the way that you feel about yourself, not the way your clothes make you feel.  Dressing modestly actually conveys more confidence because you are not afraid what others think of you neither do yo have to conform to dress inappropriately in order to fit in or feel beautiful.  The Most High commands all women of all ages to dress modestly and appropriately.

The Scripture says that we are to dress modestly, but what exactly does that mean in modern society? Does a woman have to be covered from head to toe? There are cults and religions in the world that demand this of women. But is that the biblical meaning of modesty? Again, we have to go back to the matter of the attitudes of the heart. If a woman’s heart is inclined toward godliness, she will wear clothing that is neither provocative nor revealing in public.  Clothing that does not reflect negatively upon her personal testimony as a child of the Most High.  She avoids clothing designed to draw attention to her body and cause men to lust, for she is wise enough to know that type of attention only cheapens her.

Sirach 19:30 “A man’s attire, and excessive laughter, and gait, shew what he is.”

Clothing and the way you carry yourself says everything about you.

Proverbs 31:22 “She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.”
