Adam & Eve Part 9: Ye Shall Not Die
Genesis 3:1-4 KJVS
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? [2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. [4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
All of this is the context we need to ultimately understand what happened on a deeper level. Because this is not an incident that is isolated and reduced to only Eve, it is subject to us all.

Notice how the scriptures choose to preface the situation. It lets you know who you are dealing with. The nature of the person. Too many times, are we put in a place where we can be quick, to not only listen, but apply counsel that is not adequate for us. And often times, the first red flag, and a telltale sign of that, is being able to see and identify, where is this counsel coming from? Who is giving me this information?
Sirach 37:7 KJVA
Every counsellor extolleth counsel; but there is some that counselleth for himself.
Every counsellor; every individual you seek to go to for advice, will usually tell you that advice is good. And more than likely, that the advice they are giving you is good. However, you must keep in mind that some (and even more as time goes on) will give you counsel; will give you advice, but with the risk that, the counsel will be in their favor. They are looking to convince you to move in a way, that they feel is best for them.
Sirach 37:8 KJVA
Beware of a counsellor, and know before what need he hath; for he will counsel for himself; lest he cast the lot upon thee,
You have to be mindful of anyone that is giving you advice on anything. And be aware of, if and when possible, what their desires, motives and needs are. As this will allow you to gauge how much of the advice may or may not be beneficial. What is their angle? What are they playing at? Lest this person give you advice that may be “too good”. It seems like a pipe dream. They make it seem like they are doing you a favor. When they need you to take what they are offering. And this is not limited to strangers or business deals. But includes friends and family. Some friends and family members are snakes, let truth be told.
Sirach 37:9 KJVA
And say unto thee, Thy way is good: and afterward he stand on the other side, to see what shall befall thee.
Boy, oh, boy. You can be in a place where you went to that person for counsel and you listened and did as they said do, by whatever situation was presented before you. But when things go left and you are in a place where things were unsuccessful, they can be as if they were the one that tried to counsel you against it. And now you’re confused. When you first talked it was, “Well, you should do such and such”. And after you did such and such and things went left, now they flip the script. Especially, when you have someone else give their counsel and say, “Why did you do such and such?” They will be the first to chime in and say, “I told them it was a bad idea. I don’t know why they didn’t listen.” And that is the part that becomes offensive. Because only you (and that other person) knows the truth of the matter. And you looking at them tell a bold face lie. This is what this verse is talking about and similar situations. This is what the serpent was doing to Eve.

You know, one major factor in this situation you have to be aware of, is the simple fact that this person knew… He knew! He understood what God had said. He wasn’t coming asking a sincere question in ignorance. He was already aware of the situation! He knew what God said! So why then would he go to Eve? Well, the preface of this verse tells you. He was subtle, he was sneaky, crafty, cunning (in the wicked sense). He was being evil and looking to cause harm. He had a hidden agenda from the beginning. And he targeted a weak link in the chain when it was most vulnerable.

[2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Eve also understood the assignment. She knew she could eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, save that one. And everyone was in agreement, that this is what God said. So why are we questioning what God said in the first place!?! RED FLAG! If God said… That should be it. Period, point blank. God said it. If God said don’t do something. Why would you then choose to do it? Why would you listen to someone trying to convince you to go against what you both know God said not to do? And this is what happens even as kids. Your parents told you don’t do it but one of your friends (or someone else) comes along and tells you it’s okay, or convinces you it’s cool. And eventually through peer pressure, you give in.
[3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. [4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
The same thing happens in this truth. You learn something from reading the scriptures, or someone teaching you and giving you the proper understanding. Then you have someone else, try to come along and tell you something different. How many times do we deal with this in this walk? Need it be a family member or a friend. You have someone come along and say, “God ain’t say that.” “That’s not what he meant.”
This is the same thing we go through again and again in this walk, with people in the world. The same spirit of adversity is still present. God says one thing, but man, led by Satan, says another. God warned Adam, who warned Eve, of the consequences for disobeying God’s order.
Genesis 2:17 KJVS
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
If Adam and Eve partook of the tree they would die. Let us look at “die” using the Strong’s Concordance.

God was not lying by any means. And it’s a trip because, they were thinking as what some people think. Oh, well we won’t die right now or today. But eventually you will die.
1 Corinthians 6:9 KJVS
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
We have to understand that the law in place that governs the world and how things are set up, is that we will not make it if we are being unrighteousness. Unrighteousness is what causes death. The kingdom of God is both, what many people in the faith think of when they think of the kingdom, they think of the promise land; Israel. But the kingdom is also the world to come. That whole era. When Adam and Eve sinned they brought death into the world. Everyone would now eventually die. And if we don’t get it right now, we will die for all eternity, in agony.
2 Esdras 3:7 KJVA
And unto him thou gavest commandment to love thy way: which he transgressed, and immediately thou appointedst death in him and in his generations, of whom came nations, tribes, people, and kindreds, out of number.
God’s judgment was immediate. Death would now come. It didn’t mean that you would die on the spot. They didn’t die on the spot. But they would now die eventually. Which was not how things were meant to be. It wasn’t how things were set up.
Wisdom of Solomon 2:23 KJVA
For God created man to be immortal, and made him to be an image of his own eternity.
God made mankind to be able to originally live indefinitely. But just as Solomon was to the dividing of the nation, and through him and his sin, the kingdom of Israel was rent and divided between the Northern and Southern Kingdom. So too did Adam and Eve’s sin cause mankind to lose their ability to live indefinitely.

Nevertheless through envy of the devil came death into the world: and they that do hold of his side do find it.
Through envy of the devil came death for us all.
