Adam & Eve Part 5: King Adam & The City of Adam, The City of David

Man was set up to rule from the beginning. But even over man did God set a ruler.

Genesis 1:26 KJVS

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

God created a group of people named Adam (human beings) and made them rulers over the other creatures he made. Our intellect being the number one tool used to help us make, plan, and strategize, what we need to overcome them.

Genesis 2:5 KJVS

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

When God first formed man, it was not only a situation where no one had to till the ground to plant seeds and reap and sow as we know it. But there was not a man to till the ground, meaning a groundskeeper. Someone to order everything. Just like with a literal garden, you need someone to keep it in order or else it will grow wild, to say the least. So God formed a literal man named Adam, specifically designed for rulership to help guide and govern the people who were already set up as rulers over the earth, over every other living creature. No different than a business. I have workers who help run the store but we need a manager over them and over the store.

Sirach 49:16 KJVA

Sem and Seth were in great honour among men, and so was Adam above every living thing in creation.

It mentions Sem (being Shem) and Seth because they were very righteous in their generations. Then, it mentions the man known as Adam and how he was made ruler above every other creature, including the rest of mankind, aka Adam.

2 Esdras 6:54 KJVA

And after these, Adam also, whom thou madest lord of all thy creatures: of him come we all, and the people also whom thou hast chosen.

Another precept showing you Adam was what we would identify today as a king. When you are dealing with a ruler over all, or lord over all, you are dealing with someone who is in the position of a king. He was made to rule over every other living creature, as well as over all of mankind. But it is literally him and Eve that every person living today descends from. As everyone else, outside that lineage, died in the flood.

2 Esdras 7:46 KJVA

I answered then and said, This is my first and last saying, that it had been better not to have given the earth unto Adam: or else, when it was given him, to have restrained him from sinning.

See, Adam literally had the weight of the world on his shoulders. All of mankind, both then and now was riding on his actions as ruler. This is why Esdras finding all of this out, just as many of you reading this are. Came to the conclusion that, damn, if all of this be so, it would have been better if all that power wasn’t given to Adam. Or if you at least made a way to restrain him from sinning. So then we wouldn’t even be in this state. We would have never had to experience such pain and suffering. Both us as the nation of Israel, as well as the rest of human kind. Because Adam didn’t suffer alone. We all suffered that came from him, and everyone at that time, as a result of his actions.

Genesis 2:6-8,15 KJVS

But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. [7] And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. [8] And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. [15] And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

At that time, God did not cause it to rain on the earth. Now for some, that may not sound all that special or significant. But think about how inconvenient the rain can be. Everything gets wet, and things can get flooded. When a mist comes up, that’s not that bad. The Most High would just give the earth a rich supply of what we would identify as morning dew. But when Adam and Eve sinned, now rain came in as punishment. But everyone suffered for that. All of mankind did not have to labor to sow and reap and till the ground. Everything grew naturally. But Adam’s sin destroyed that, just as when Solomon sinned and caused the split of the Northern and Southern Kingdom. We have to understand the proverb, “to whom mush is given, much is required.” This was the importance of Genesis chapter two. It shows how God made a leader and set him up in the kingdom, the garden of Eden. To have him to till the ground and dress it and keep it. Not what we think in terms of a literal garden, but in the sense of rulership. Guide the people, help guide civilization.

Genesis 2:19 KJVS

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

The man Adam was literally governing the world at that time. Responsible for naming all of the animals in creation, and then some. The Most High God was grooming Adam as literally his son, showing him the ropes (see lesson on “The Sons of God”). But Adam found all of this to be his norm. This was all he knew. No different than you with your parents. We are looking at it as, “man must be nice to be able to go to God for everything and he give you an answer.” That is another product of sin. Again, this is why Cain was so comfortable getting smart with God, when God himself was talking to him. It was normal for him to be able to talk to God as his grandparent.

Joshua 3:16 KJVS

That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

The city of Adam. It sounds so strange doesn’t it? Why would a city be named after Adam? Because as we have been covering, Adam was ruling. It was known that this was the primary headquarters of where you would find him, the capital if you will. No different from the capital of a state. But where was this city of Adam? It was located and marked as the very land you may know by another name.

1 Kings 8:1 KJVS

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

The city of David is what the city of Adam ultimately became. But here we get the added detail to understand what the city of David is and where it is. It is Zion.

2 Samuel 5:7 KJVS

Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

Zion is the city of David. But what is Zion and where is it?

Isaiah 52:1 KJVS

Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

Zion is the holy city Jerusalem. Which is the capital of Israel; the capital of the Southern Kingdom. So need someone say, “Lets meet up in the city of David.” You know they mean the city of Zion. Or if they said, “let’s meet up in the city of Adam.” You know they mean Jerusalem.  It’s all connected. No different than streets or cities you know that changed over the years because they were renamed. But as time changed sometimes the name of the location changed but the place remains the same. He that hath ears to hear let him hear.

Deuteronomy 32:7-8 KJVS

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee. [8] When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

Even when The Most High was dividing people by language and location. He made sure to preplan and set things up for how he originally intended. Even going back to Adam and Eve. When they had children he already knew how he was going to have things play out. Everything was predicated on the sons of God; the sons of Israel. Which is why when we went to conquer our land. That was not random. It was the same land from before, the land of old; the garden.

Hebrews 2:13 KJVS

[13] And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
