YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH MUSIC, MENTORSHIP & CULTURAL IDENTITY
Restoring music. empowering youth.
Music is more than entertainment. It is memory, identity, discipline, healing, storytelling, and the voice of a people.
THE CRISIS Why This Program Matters
A Decade of Decline in Arts Education
Since 2010, music and arts education has faced severe decline across California — especially in underserved Los Angeles communities. Band, choir, instrumental instruction, and arts mentorship were reduced or eliminated entirely from many schools.
By 2019–2020, nearly 90% of California public schools were not meeting state arts education goals, with low-income Black and Latino communities most affected. The crisis led California voters to pass Proposition 28 in 2022, allocating up to $1 billion annually to restore arts education statewide.
COVID-19 further disrupted ensemble learning, mentorship, and performance during critical developmental years. Many young people lost creative expression, emotional outlets, and cultural connection. This program exists to rebuild those spaces.
OUR PURPOSEMore Than Music
Discipline. Healing. Identity. Expression.
Through structured music education, mentorship, ensemble training, songwriting, performance, and cultural studies — students develop teamwork, leadership, emotional intelligence and authentic artistic expression by learning how to tell stories that deserve to be heard and passed from generation to generation.
