Milk & Deep Understandings
Imagine if you gave a baby a steak instead of milk, what would happen? Naturally the baby would choke and have a greatly increased risk of dying. The same happens to us spiritual if we choose to avoid the “milk” and chase the “meat.” Yes, there are many doctrines and books that are taught and used however, not all doctrines or books are “sound.” Meaning true and scripturally accurate. Some you must chew the meat and spit out the bones. Yet, how do you know what is true and what is false? How do you get the understanding?
Acts 8:30-31 KJVS
[30] And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? [31] And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Someone more skilled than you must show you and teach you the way of righteousness and truth just as they were taught by someone else.
Hebrews 5:13-14 KJVS
[13] For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. [14] But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
You must have your senses exercised to discern both good and evil in the eyes of the Most High else you may become seduced or deceived. You must mature spiritually and become skilled in the word. This is done through receiving lessons and learning every week for months and even years on end. However, the timeline for how fast or slow everyone excels varies from person to person and that is okay.
Sirach 32:20 Go not in a way wherein thou mayest fall, and stumble not among the stones.
Some understandings, doctrines and books are best left alone. Lest you venturing down that path take you off the righteous path and you fall away from the truth and thus from the faith. And unfortunately, not all make it back from that wrong turn.
Sirach 19:22 The knowledge of wickedness is not wisdom, neither at any time the counsel of sinners prudence.
Not all knowledge is good. Knowledge is information. Some information is not good to apply or use. Ask Adam and Eve. Nor is getting information concerning how to move in life in general, good to get from those who are not walking a righteous path. Yes, they may have a crumb, but don’t look for the loaf of bread from people who overall are operating out of wickedness and don’t have the word as a filter. It may sound good, yet, it is not sound doctrine. “Take it with a grain of salt” as they say.
Isaiah 34:16 KJVS
[16] Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
The first thing we are called to do is seek out the book of the Most High God and read that. Study and verify what it says. When the scriptures say, “none shall want her mate” a mate is a companion. So the verse is letting us know that there is no companion needed to go along with the Bible. This is because the Bible (as the latter end of the verse suggest) was a work not of the spirit of man but of the spirit of the Most High.
Hebrews 5:12-14 KJVS
[12] For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. [13] For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. [14] But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Although many of us may be thirty, forty, or fifty years of age or older. And should be able to know the scriptures and teach on many principles; many are still “babes” because you were never taught these principles in spirit and in truth. And now have need to be taught again the basic doctrines of Christ and the Most High. And thus are in need of “milk” the strong foundational doctrines and lessons. Lest you venture into “deep understandings” and mysteries and become more confused or lost because you did not have a good understanding. And now you start to become enticed or entangled in many different doctrines. That could ultimately lead to you falling away from the Most High or walking in much more sin although you are a believer of the Most High.
1 John 4:1 KJVS
[1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Even with finding a good teacher it takes time and application. You need to go through a few lessons and put everyone on a trial period. You cannot believe someone just because they claim to be in the “truth.” You must prove them to know if that is true or false based on their actions in addition to their words. Because many liars and deceivers are out in the world. Many with ulterior motives as well. Yet, if you hold to the basics and seek out the Most High in prayer all will be revealed in time. You may watch a camp for two or three months, even a year or two before you choose to join them and that is okay.
1 Corinthians 3:1-2 KJVS
[1] And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. [2] I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Notice Paul stated, it isn’t that he did not want to teach deeper doctrines and understandings it’s just that the people at the church in Corinth were not ready for those doctrines and understandings yet as a whole. And you must be able to identify that within yourself. Are you able and ready to receive the strong meat or are you a babe liable to choke?
Revelation 12:15 KJVS
[15] And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
Remember Satans job is to ensure we are carried away and flooded with different doctrines and understandings that we drown in the world of foolishness and chaos.
Revelation 12:16 KJVS
[16] And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
Yet it is the “earth” through archaeology and study through having a solid foundation that will keep us grounded and rooted in the word having a strong foundation to stand on that when a storm comes we are not swept away.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 KJVS
[21] Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.
I know that if any doctrine goes away from the foundation I have learned, when in doubt throw it out. But I will cleave to what I know is solid and good. And separate the good from the bad until I get more understanding.
Psalm 111:10 KJVS
[10] The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments : his praise endureth for ever.
The understanding comes with application of righteousness through doing the right thing according to the Most High’s word.
Ephesians 4:14 KJVS
[14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
